One research scholarship valued at R50 000 is available each year to any fully paid-up member or associate member of the SA Heart Association. The scholarship is intended primarily to assist an individual already involved in outstanding research to enhance her/his research programme.

Requirements:

• Applicants must be fully paid up members/associate members in good standing for at least one year.
• The applications will be assessed on the merits of the research proposal that accompanies the application.
• The proposal should include:
  a) An abstract (max 200 words)
  b) A brief literature review (max 200 words)
  c) A brief description of the hypothesis to be investigated (max 100 words)
  d) Detailed methodology (max 500 words)
  e) Literature references
  

The applications must also include:

• The applicant's abbreviated CV
• A detailed budged outlining the anticipated expenses
  

Other factors that will favourably support the application:

• Acceptance of an abstract of related work at an international meeting in the next year
• Publications of related work in peer reviewed journal/s in the preceding year
• An application from a member of a previously disadvantaged community
• An application from a member younger than 35 years of age
